Over the past nine years, we have been honored to offer free access to the Open edX platform as a service. This initiative was born out of our drive for innovation and our deep commitment to quality education worldwide, with the goal of empowering individuals and organizations to explore the possibilities of online learning at no cost.
Over the years, more than 25 thousand individuals signed up for this free service and were able to explore what the Open edX platform has to offer. We have witnessed incredible examples of creativity and a wide variety of explorations and learning offerings, many of which ended up being valuable stepping stones to now well established online learning initiatives.
At the same time, the Open edX project has been evolving and consolidating and has developed a number of strategies to drive global adoption, so we are nothing short of excited about what will come next for the Open edX project.
For those of you interested to test the platform and learn about it from a hands on perspective, we are excited to share that as a result of an initiative started by edunext, the Open edX project now has a Community Sandbox, a fantastic resource that allows anyone to try out the latest version of the platform LMS and Studio and learn about its capabilities in a free and open environment. This sandbox provides the perfect space for exploration, experimentation, and learning without any associated costs.
For those interested in a low cost option to be able to build and host real courses in the platform, Our Nimbus SaaS offering is still the best choice.
As we refocus our energy, innovation, technical expertise and support to enhance the services we provide to our paid customers, we can continue to deliver exceptional value and support to those who rely on us for their online learning needs.
We want to extend a special invitation to our current free subscribers to upgrade to one of our paid subscriptions. By upgrading, you'll not only continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to the platform but also benefit from our full range of premium services and support. To help with this transition, we're offering a 30-day grace period, during which your account will remain active. If you choose not to upgrade within this period, your account will be suspended. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to elevate your online learning initiatives with edunext.

Depending on your specific plan, there will be a limit to monthly active users (MAU).
To understand better what this means, imagine a local library. The Monthly Active Users (MAU) would be the number of unique people who walk through the library's doors in a month. It doesn't count how often they visit, just that they came in at least once.
This is similar to tracking your users in the Open edX platform. MAU tells you how many individuals have used your platform within the last month. It's a way to measure how many people are interested in your LMS. So, the higher the MAU, the bigger the audience you reach. Monthly Active Users (MAU) is like counting everyone who walks through the doors in a month.
Concurrent Users are like counting the number of people physically present in the library at any moment. Even if hundreds of people visit the library in a month (MAU), the number of people there at 3 pm on a Tuesday (concurrent users) might be much smaller. The same happens with your platform. The number of simultaneous users at a particular hour will be much smaller than monthly active users.
Here's the difference:
Depending on the size, interests, and requirements of the intended installation, we can offer different alternatives. To get started, the one we recommend for most initiatives, is to choose one of our cloud subscriptions. This would be recommended for all initiatives under 10k monthly active users and would be the fastest way to get all the new features from the latest Open edX release, plus all our exclusive features that add a lot of value to simplify and improve the management of the online learning project, the type of subscription and the number of active users. These subscriptions are the fastest and most cost-efficient way to get you running.
